PIMA COUNTY - A Three Points woman is still in critical condition after being shot in the chest Wednesday during a home invasion.
Pima County Sheriff's deputies were called to Desert Well Road just after 3 p.m. The 61-year-old homeowner was shot in the chest and was airlifted to University of Arizona Medical Center.
Investigators say multiple shots were fired but details from the victim are scarce. Detectives say they know the woman fired at the intruders.
Witnesses say there was a small gold-colored car leaving the area when it happened.
There were obvious signs of a gun battle. The side of the mobile home is riddled with bullets. Neighbors who heard the gunfire asked not to be identified.
"It was very rapid and a lot of shots and it was a lot bigger than a 22."
Another neighbor says he saw some vehicles that just didn't belong in the area.
"Both cars had real shiny rims on and the low profile tires."
Then he heard the gunfire, "The one car has already left then here comes the other car right after the gun shots speeding my front of my house as fast as he could go."
He called 911. He later learned his 61-year-old neighbor had also pulled out her weapon. "They're talking about gun control and all this stuff, if that lady hadn't had a gun and started shooting back at them she'd probably be dead."
People who live in the area say they're out there because they like their privacy and they're willing to do anything to protect it.
If you have information you can call 88-CRIME or 911.
