TUCSON - Two women accused of shoplitfing left the 3-month-old child they were babysitting in the car while they were stealing, Tucson Police said.
Strangers heard crying in the parking lot of the El Con mall Wednesday and found the baby in a locked car, Tucson Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Dugan said.
At first they couldn't see the baby, Dugan said, because it was under a sweatshirt. The strangers unlocked the car through an opening in the window and let it relax in their air-conditioned vehicle, Dugan said.
Additional charges are pending, Dugan said.
Court records show both women have prior shop lifting convictions. Tapia was found guilty of in December and Luna has a shoplifing conviction from June.
