TUCSON - Tucson Police respond to a shooting at a south side home Saturday evening and find 2 young children and an adult female suffering from obvious signs of trauma.
The children, a 17-month-old male child and a 4-year-old female child, had each been shot. Their mother, a 25-year old female, was also suffering from obvious injuries.
The baby boy was pronounced dead at the home in the 900 block of West Calle Colado. The 4-year-old girl died later at the hospital. The mother is expected to survive.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the mother of the children was home alone with them when the incident occurred. While inside the residence, she retrieved a handgun and shot both of her children. The injuries that she sustained appeared to be self-inflicted, but were not life-threatening.
The mother's motive for her shooting the children is being withheld for investigative reasons, but no other persons are considered suspects. Upon her release from the hospital, the mother will be arrested and booked on 2 counts of First Degree Murder.
Next of kin for the children have not yet been notified.
