Tucson Biggest Loser: Hiding her Weight Behind her Voice

TUCSON - Our latest Biggest Loser Tucson contestant is a woman in her 30's who has used opera singing as an excuse for being bigger.

That was until a drastic decision by her husband left her wanting to change.

Amy Williams is a classically trained professional opera singer. So it was not unusual that she was on the heavier side, in fact maybe more fitting of the overweight stereotype.

"It gave me a buffer to the world because it gave me an excuse like I have a reason that I am fat. I am an opera singer and everybody is like ‘oh okay.' It was like this realization to ‘oh that's why she's fat she's an opera singer,'" said Williams.

Williams said she comes from a fit family so she has always stuck out. Six years after marrying her husband Tai she was 60 pounds heavier tipping the scales at 289 pounds.

"We both kind of had a crutch because he smoked so I could be fat," she said. That all changed when one night Tai gave up smoking cold turkey.

"At 3:00 in the morning he knew he was either going to have to go out and buy a carton of cigarettes or he said he suddenly thought I could just stop smoking and this could be my last cigarette," said Williams.

She was a proud wife, bragging about his will power to quit after being addicted for so long. "I have been telling people I wish I had the will power but the truth is I do I am just not using it," she said.

She began preparing her own food and completely stopped eating fast food. Within a year she lost 100 pounds.

"I really want to be a mom and I know that being obese and being pregnant and having a baby is just not the way to go," said Williams.

The doctors have now given her the go ahead that she is at a healthy weight to become pregnant. "I lost over 100 pounds and I have not noticed a difference in my singing nothing not in the slightest," said Williams.

No diet plans, no surgery, no magic pills just the will power to want more for her health and the future of her family.
