Tucson Fire battles two-alarm fire at southside school

TUCSON- It took 40 firefighters to control a two-alarm fire at the S.T.A.R Academic High School late Friday night.

Tucson Fire Captain Barrett Baker says crews were first dispatched to the school in the 5000 block of South Liberty Avenue, just after 11:30 p.m., for reports of flames and smoke coming from the school.

The first unit on scene reported flames coming through the roof.

An attack team of eight firefighters made entry into the school, but the safety officer pulled them out after the building was deemed to dangerous to be in.

From that point, Baker says firefighters fought the fire defensively from the outside.

No firefighters were injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates are unknown at this time.
