TUCSON- Tucson Fire responded to a commercial building fire early Saturday morning, after a passer-by reported heavy smoke in the area of Park Avenue and Benson Highway.
TFD Captain Barrett Baker says crews were able to locate the building in the 800 block of East 46th Street around 1:23 a.m. The building is used to make precision machined-parts.
With the building unoccupied, crews were forced to cut a hole in a roll up door to gain access.
Baker says multiple crews searched the large building, both inside and on the roof with thermal imaging equipment, until they found a piece of equipment on fire in the middle of the building.
According to Baker, visibility was down to 10 feet during the search due to the amount of smoke in the building.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and found the fire had not spread to other parts of the building.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews set up large fans to clear the building of smoke.
Baker says the cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates are unknown.
