Tucson man arrested for child porn, neighbors react

TUCSON - A tip from an internet service providers leads to the arrest of a 28-year-old man in Rita Ranch on child pornography charges.

A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received the initial tip and led Tucson Police to the 9700 Block of East Bennett Driver and the arrest of Michael Hill.

The investigation turned up several pieces of child pornography in Hill's home as well as evidence that he approached at least three underage boys online. No victims have been identified yet.

Joanna Proffitt lives next door to Hill and was overwhelmed by the news that her neighbor was involved in child porn.

"Obviously it's shocking. You don't expect it, especially with the fact that they live right next door," Proffitt told News 4 Tucson.

The internet service provider was not disclosed immediately. However, Sgt. Chris Widmer said it's becoming more common to see the cooperation from the service providers themselves.

"It's happening more and more and that's what we need... The internet service providers coming forward," Widmer said, adding that "We're also really pushing for parents to monitor what their children are doing on these social networks and keep tabs on it and report anything that seems unusual."

Police know that there was contact between Hill and the three boys but investigators are working to find out if there was any further contact made with children.

Neighbors describe Hill as withdrawn, hardly ever leaving the house.

"More standoff-ish, more anti-social you could say," Joanna said.

Her brother Michael recalls only having talked to Hill a few times.

"I just talked to him... Just little snit bits here and there... But after this, I don't even know him," Michael said.

Hill faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Police continue to investigate whether additional children were involved and to what extent.
