Tucson receives national recognition for bicycle friendliness

TUCSON - The city of Tucson has made it on two national top ten lists for bicycle friendliness.

The Travel Channel ranked Tucson number six in their "Top 10 Cycling Cities in the Nation" and fitness website WalkScore.com ranked Tucson number eight in their "Top 10 Most Bikeable Large U.S. Cities."

The Travel Channel says: "This desert oasis has more bicycle infrastructure than any other city in the US, boasting more than 700 miles of designated bikeways. You can ride year-round without bundling up, and the mountain bike trails outside of town, as in the Santa Catalina Mountains, are top-notch... just don't crash into a cactus!"

The Tucson and East Pima County Region is currently a Gold status community for bicycle friendliness as classified through the League of American Bicyclists. Only 18 communities are rated as a Gold status community.
