TUCSON - The 88th annual Tucson Rodeo is seeing some big crowds despite the cool and wet weather.

This week's rain, sleet and snow may have left the rodeo grounds a little muddy but it won't stop the events from going off without a hitch. In fact, it's been over 50 years since the last and only time a Tucson Rodeo event has been cancelled and that was because the city was flooded from heavy rains.

Bill Schurg, Chairman of the Tucson Rodeo Committee, says a little wet weather isn't a bad thing and that sales are actually up from last year's record setting rodeo attendance.

Schurg says, "Our sales up 2-4% from last year so we're very happy about that."

Not only is the weather drawing people out in large crowds but it can help the conditions out inside the arena. Morgan Heaton, a bareback horse rider, says a little rain holds down the dust and the mud offers a little more padding when you hit the ground.

"I think it's perfect. It's a little cooler and the horses usually want to buck better," explains Heaton.
