TUCSON - Tucson's homeless community is getting a chance to find work.

For a second year, the Tucson Police Department is teaming up with the Primavera Foundation to provide jobs for the homeless or those in transition at this year's Gem Show.

Employees will perform landscaping work to beautify the Tucson Convention Center and other downtown areas.

Deborah Clark taking is taking part in the program and says she is thankful for the opportunity.

Clark says, "This program has helped me very much get back on my feet and to save some money."

TPD is funding this initiative with money from the Rico Funds.

"We are very grateful for this opportunity and hope that it leads to bigger and better things," hopes Clark.

Rick Sumner with the Primavera Foundation says they have a crew of 20 people working at the TCC and most of those workers are homeless for the first time.

Sumner says, "We have the ability to work as job coaches, our supervisors are able to pinpoint issues people have and help them address these issues."

Sumner says Primavera works hard with hope that the less fortunate find permanent employment.

"We provide them with the job leads that we get from various sources and we been very successful in placing people into employment," explains Sumner.

The program continues to do well and TPD hopes to fund it for years to come.
