TUCSON - An iconic restaurant that's been around for over 40 years announced Thursday it will close.
The family-owned John Jacob's El Parador on Broadway released the decision in an email. Details about why the owners will be shutting the tropical-themed eatery weren't addressed in the release.
John Jacob passed on management to his children, Loretta, Donald and Daniel.
"We are grateful to the Lord for the continued health of our parents," on of Jacob's children said.
The family is thankful for the run.
Arizona Highways named El Parador a "Tucson treasure" in 2010 and was known for a dining space adorned with floor-to-ceiling plants and twinkle lights.
The restaurant featured a dedicated staff, with 9 employees serving, cooking and cleaning for at least 9 years. Three members of the staff worked at the restaurant for 15 years.
