TUCSON - School officials in Tucson say a second grade teacher accused of taping a young girl to a chair as punishment has been removed from the classroom pending an internal investigation.
The girl told her mother the teacher taped her to her chair last week for getting up to sharpen her pencil too many times at Hollinger Elementary School.
The mother, Maria Vasquez, was outraged and says her daughter suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The family reported the incident to Tucson police, which also is looking into it.
Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman Cara Rene says the incident is under investigation, adding that "such behavior is not appropriate or acceptable" and isn't part of district protocol.
Rene says if the claim is substantiated, "appropriate disciplinary action will be taken."
