TUCSON - A Tucson mother has plead guilty to felony charges of animal abuse.
Pima County Sheriffs deputies say 37-year-old Francisca Aguirre left her mastiff mix untreated after getting struck by a car last on Sept. 30.
An anonymous tip to Pima Animal Care lead investigators to Aguirre's home in the 3400 block of East Milton Road on Oct. 5. They found the dog in extreme pain, with a mangled leg that had grown infected when they followed up with the tip two days later.
The dog was without food, shelter or water, Pima County Sheriffs spokeswoman Deputy Courtney Rodriguez said in a release. Neighbors told News 4 Tucson the dog would regularly get out of its fenced yard.
The dog was euthanized at the PACC clinic because its condition was "too severe" to treat, Rodriguez said.
