TUCSON - The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board has approved a contract for Dr. H.T. Sanchez as the next superintendent of TUSD.
The board voted unanimously in favor of the contract Friday.
The three year contract begins July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2016.
The annual base salary is $210,000, with expense allowances of $25,000 and relocation expenses of $8,000.
The Governing Board appointed Dr. Sanchez to be the next superintendent of TUSD, after he was named the sole finalist from a national search that attracted more than 60 applicants.
He will succeed Dr. John Pedicone, who announced his resignation in March and whose resignation is effective Sunday.
Dr. Sanchez comes to TUSD from Ector County Independent School District, based in Odessa, Texas, where he has served as interim superintendent, deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent since 2010.
He has until Saturday at 5 p.m. to accept the contract. He is scheduled to start as district superintendent on July 1.
The Governing Board also approved consultancy contracts for Dr. Pedicone and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Maria Menconi, to support Dr. Sanchez's transition into the district on an as-needed basis.
