Two die in head-on collision

TUCSON- Two people died in a head-on vehicle accident early Sunday morning on Tucson's Northside.

Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Jesus Banuelos said a Corvette and a Honda Civic collided around 2:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of East River Road.

The driver of the Corvette, 18-year-old Gabriel Gallegos was ejected from the vehicle, while his passenger, 20-year-old Olajuwon Gilliam, was trapped in the vehicle. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the Civic were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Banuelos said Gallegos was heading westbound in his Corvette, when he lost control, causing him to cross the center line and collide head-on with the Civic.

Deputies say speed was a factor in the accident.
