Two women injured in accident near Gates Pass

TUCSON - Two women were injured in an accident Saturday morning near Gates Pass.

Northwest Fire Crews responded to the area of Speedway Boulevard and Anklam Road around 2:47am.

According to Captain Adam Goldberg with Northwest Fire District, a 20-year-old woman was driving when she lost control of her car, left the roadway and traveled down an embankment about 40 feet.

Crews found her and a 21-year-old passenger in the car. One of them was trapped, the other was conscious but also injured.

A Technical Rescue Team was called to help extricate them. Northwest Fire was assisted by units from the Drexel Heights Fire District in completing the rescue.

The driver is in stable condition with minor injuries and the passenger has serious injuries.

Both women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident which may have contributed to preventing critical if not fatal injuries.

They were taken to the trauma center at the University of Arizona Medical Center's Main Campus.
