Unsuspecting group says Border Patrol pulled gun on them

TUCSON - Border Patrol agents surrounded a van at gunpoint.

Those inside said they were coming home from grocery shopping, and they're angry about the way they were treated.

The Loews, owners of Agua Linda Farm said they've seen their fair share of immigrants crossing through their property and evidence of drug runners, but never has a gun been pulled on a family member until now.

That's exactly what happened to one of their family members on their driveway.

"I saw the gun pointed right at the car," said Jesse Loew.

Loew said the person holding the gun was a border patrol agent.

Loew just lives down the driveway.

"We're on our property," said Loew.

Jacob Mays, was driving the van.

The other two passengers are interns at the farm.

"When he said to put our hands up, he used the ‘f word,'" said Mays.

They said it was a traumatizing experience.

"Holy crap we're all going to get shot," said Loew.

Mays said he spoke up.

"After I put my hands up, I said, 'what are you doing? We are all 4 U.S. citizens," said Mays.

And after taking a look at them, the group tells News 4 Tucson, the agents turned around and sped off in reverse down the driveway.

"It could have been messy," said Laurel Loew, Jesse's mom.

Laurel said the agents should have handled the situation differently.

"How about, 'hey sorry guys, you're the wrong guy, we're going to go,'" said Laurel.

News 4 Tucson asked U.S. Customs and Border Protection what happened to bring them to Loew's property, we also asked about the agent in question.

They wouldn't go into any specifics, but did say they're looking into the incident.

CBP also sent this statement:

"The Tucson Sector Border Patrol is looking into the alleged incident. Any allegations against our agents are taken extremely seriously and we are committed to policing ourselves and identifying those who do not adhere to the highest standards of conduct. Border Patrol agents have taken the Oath of Office, which is a solemn pledge, one that conveys great responsibility, and one that should be carried out at all times with the utmost professionalism and integrity."

Loew said he just hopes agents can secure more of the border at the border to avoid spillover onto his property.
