Vehicle crashes into car of sheriff's deputy

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - Pinal County authorities said a woman was impaired by alcohol when her vehicle struck a deputy's car at the scene of a previous DUI arrest.

The deputy's marked car was struck just after he stopped Sunday along a road in the Casa Grande area to help other officers making an arrest.

The deputy was still in the car and he sustained minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Amanda Leyvas was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol, aggravated assault and criminal damage.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the deputy's car had its emergency lights on. It said Leyvas' car narrowly missed two other marked sheriff's vehicles and two deputies standing next to them.

Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney said he doesn't know whether Leyvas has an attorney.
