TUCSON- Crews are still working to repair a water main break on St. Mary's and Westmoerland, just west of Interstate 10.
The break happened at about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, creating a flood of water down the street and a large sinkhole in the middle of the eastbound lanes on St. Mary's Road. Tucson Water officials aren't sure what caused the break, but Public Information Officer Fernando Molina says the pipe involved was built in 1954.
Molina says about 40 to 50 residents living near the sinkhole should expect to have their water turned off for some time. Crews are trying to avoid turning off the water at St. Mary's hospital, just west of the incident.
Drivers should avoid the area for the next few hours, as crews continue working in the eastbound lanes on St. Mary's.
