We're giving away free car seats on Wednesday!

TUCSON - Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children in the United States. This Wednesday, Kristi's Kids and Safe Kids Tucson are teaming up to help reduce this risk with free car seats.

On Wednesday, August 22, News 4 Tucson will host a live phone bank from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with volunteers from Safe Kids and News 4 Tucson taking calls and setting up callers with a free car seat for their child.

Volunteers will determine the appropriate car seat for your child, based on their age and weight. All children under 5 are required to sit in a car seat, and a new law that went into effect this month requires children 5 to 8 who are shorter than 4 feet 10 inches to also use a booster seat.

Those who receive a car seat will be required to attend a car seat safety class. The car seats are available for children up to 5-years-old and pregnant women. Parents of children 5 to 8 will be referred to TMC to receive a car seat.

Tune in to News 4 Tucson at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22 to call in and sign up to receive your free car seat!
