Weekend washout underway

TUCSON - Significant rainfall continues across Southern Arizona to start the weekend.

A pacific storm system will bring widespread showers to the region throughout the day, according to Meteorologist John Patrick. Most sites across Tucson have picked up between 0.25"-0.33" through this morning and could exceed record levels by this afternoon. The record rainfall for Tucson sits at 0.67" for January 26 and the airport has already 0.20" since last night.

Scattered showers will remain possible right on through the weekend with snowfall levels only falling to 8000 feet by Sunday. Snow accumulations should stay in the 2-5 inch for the highest mountain peaks this weekend.

A cooler system dips into the region to start the work week keeping our rain and snow chances around through Tuesday. Snow levels fall a little further Monday to around 5000 feet with enough snow to possibly see some Winter Weather Advisories go into place.

The colder air associated with the next system will drop highs into the low to mid 50s for the middle of the work week. A widespread freeze will also be likely on both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
