Woman dies from Phoenix apartment fire injuries

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities in Phoenix say several residents of an apartment complex acted heroically in trying to rescue a woman trapped in her burning apartment on the second floor.

Fire Capt. Tony Muir says residents broke a window to talk to the woman who told them she was too weak to get out on her own.

He says the residents then broke down a metal security door and were able to get the woman out onto a second-floor balcony.

However, Muir says the woman died from her injuries and could not be revived.

The fire's cause is under investigation but Muir says there's no indication of foul play.
