TUCSON - An investigation is underway after a woman's body is found at Redington Pass.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department says, the body was found early Wednesday morning. Two people were questioned and named as persons of interest.
Redington Road was closed for nearly nine hours. The body was found off the road at mile post 8. The woman was described as being in her 20's.
The Sheriff's Department got the call at 6:40 a.m. from a passerby. It first came in as a suicide, but that quickly changed once deputies arrived.
"They gathered information and contacted the homicide unit because things appear to be suspicious," said PCSD spokesperson Jesus Banuelos. "They interviewed two individuals who are now persons of interest."
One person claimed their car had broken down in the area, Banuelos says.
"It is believed these two individuals were with the person prior to her death."
Detectives say the victim has been identified and they're in the process of contacting her relatives. No word yet on whether the persons of interest are facing any charges.
Joe Schwartz and Kelsey Brennan tried several times to get through Redington Road. It's a road that is narrow and winding. It leads to an area known as Redington Pass known as a recreational area.
"We were just going to go swimming ,cliff jumping we can't get past milepost 2.5," Brennan says.
"Honestly I'm not surprised there's a lot of people bringing guns up here." Brennan says. "It's a little scary I wonder what happened? I don't want to speculate how the body got there but it is concerning."
