Woman shot in the head, boyfriend is pistol whipped

TUCSON - A woman shot in the head, behind the wheel of a car. She survived along with her passenger who was pistol-whipped.

Tucson police say it happened around 6 a.m. in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood, near Grant and Oracle. Police say the 41-year old woman was shot and her 22-year old boyfriend was dragged out of the car and beaten.

Detectives are looking for two Hispanic men in their mid-20s last seen in a black, late-model, Chevy Impala.

One of the neighbors who heard the gun fire says a man came running out saying, "Help, help, they've just shot my wife twice in the head."

Lt. Fabian Pacheco says, "The victim actually tried to leave the scene by putting the vehicle in reverse and trying to drive away. At that point, one of the male suspects fired one round, one shot through the windshield."

Within minutes, Tucson Police officers were on the scene. Detectives say the two were just coming home from the casino and were about to turn into their driveway when the men, wearing bandanas covering their faces, approached the Mazda RX 8.

Lt. Pacheco says, "We're looking at all possible scenarios in this - we don't really know as of yet established definitely what led up to the shooting."

The shooting occurred across the street from a school. A young girl who lives in the neighborhood says, "Its messed up for people to shoot someone they don't even know." It's also an area where children play. "Its just sad that they are shooting people like that all of a sudden and they shouldn't be doing that."
