SIERRA VISTA - The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin constructing raised medians on State Route 92 in Sierra Vista on Thursday, Nov. 7.
Motorists on SR 92 will encounter travel restrictions in the area from Monsanto Drive to about 1000 feet south of Glenn Road beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, when ADOT crews will close the inside lanes in both directions.
The lane closures will remain in place around the clock throughout the construction process, with the outside lane in each direction remaining open for traffic.
The posted speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph when crews are on site, weekdays from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. When workers are not present, the speed limit will be posted at 45 mph through the construction area.
When crews have finished constructing the median between Glenn Road and Monsanto, work will begin constructing the median from Monsanto to Canyon de Flores.
The project, designed to enhance safety for motorists by restricting left turns entering and exiting SR 92 in the heavily traveled commercial area, is expected to be complete in late December.
The permanent speed limit will be posted at 45 mph in between Canyon de Flores and Glenn Road when the project is complete.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
