DATELAND, AZ - Eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 have reopened east of Yuma in southwestern Arizona following an accident in which a state Department of Public Safety officer was killed.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves says the officer had been responding to a collision when he was rear-ended by a tanker truck while sitting in his patrol car.
The collision happened Monday evening near the community of Dateland, about 65 miles east of Yuma.
Authorities have not released the officer's identity. Graves says he's a 14-year DPS veteran who was assigned to the southern Arizona bureau.
