TUCSON - The City of Tucson is seeking qualified and experienced individuals or businesses to provide management of Tucson City Golf Courses.

The City of Tucson released a request for proposal looking for a Contractor to improve the operation, maintenance and financial performance of the City's five public golf courses.

Cyril Shettleroe with the Tucson Greens Committee thinks the request for proposal of privatization may not be the best option for the City of Tucson and Tucson City Golf.

Shettleroe says, "I think they're covering all of their bases and looking at all the options that I think anybody would have to do."

He thinks that the best thing for Tucson City Golf is to increase revenue by continuing to get golfers out to the facilities.

"They've got two years to cover their expenses with their own revenues and to come up with a plan to pay back the general fund," explains Shettleroe.

A general fund Shettleroe says is around $6 million. If Tucson City Golf does not come up with a plan to cover their running costs and pay back the fund the City could call for privatization.

Kevin Meade, a local golfer, isn't too concerned about a possible management change as long as course conditions and prices stay reasonable.

"If the costs remained the same and the level of course conditions stay the same than I don't think it will have an effect on players," says Meade.

Meade was happy to learn that whatever happens to course management the land that the public courses sit on should always be used for golf.
