TUCSON - As President Obama took the ceremonial oath, some Tucsonans took in the inaugural experience in person on the east coast.
While many of us watched the presidential inauguration from our TV screens, some made the extra effort to witness this historical even in person.
University of Arizona student Sami-Jo Roth, a journalism student, enjoyed one of the best views in Washington, D.C.
"Words can not even describe how I felt," Roth told News 4 Tucson in a Skype interview.
Roth had the opportunity to report, tweet and post pictures of everything that happened on this inaugural day as she woke up at 2:30 in the morning to begin her day.
"I got there and there was a line of media so long...it was probably around 600 people, just media," Roth said.
Roth said she savored the experience of a lifetime.
"The whole experience was just surreal, I mean here I am 20 years old and i'm up on this platform with all of these accomplished journalists and reporters and you know my career hasn't even started yet," Roth said.
For one of our viewers, Alma Hernandez who is also a Tucsonan, it was an emotional experience.
"It was amazing, I mean...I got a little teary eyed so did my sister and my friend. It was really exciting," Hernandez said.
Taking the trip back east with her sister and friend, Hernandez was excited to see history unfold right in front of her eyes.
"We weren't able to come to the last one so we thought it would be great and an amazing opportunity for us to come out and witness it with our own eyes," Hernandez said.
Hernandez's group plans on attending one of the inaugural balls tonight and enjoying all that the city has to offer before they make their way back home on Wednesday.
