Posted 9:44 AM 4/29/2013 : Close, but no ice breaking heat on tap
TUCSON - The ice breaks for parts of southern Arizona today, just not the Old Pueblo.
High pressure parked off the West Coast cranks up temps 9-11 degrees above average, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Daytime highs range from the upper 90's in Metro Tucson to 100's for Sells and Ajo. Today should be the warmest afternoon of the year for all of the Sonoran Desert.
Temps tick down a few degrees the rest of the week, with low to mid 90's in the forecast. A cold front moves across the Rockies Thursday, bringing 15-25 MPH winds and a high fire danger to southern Arizona. Models hint at a few showers for the second half of the weekend, but given how dry the atmosphere is, rain appears unlikely for the next 7 days.
