TUCSON - Mother Nature's making a run at the century mark.

A poorly organized pair of high pressure centers draws in drier air, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This shuts down the Monsoon Machine and cranks up the thermostat the next few days. Today and Friday should see highs peak in the 100's metro-wide under mostly sunny skies.

As of today, Tucson has hit 100 degrees or better 47 times this year. The average number of 100 degree days Tucson sees per year is 62.

There is a slight chance of isolated storms for the mountains of southern Arizona this afternoon. This activity has a slim chance of causing severe weather, putting today's Monsoon Prediction Index at a 1 out of 10.

High pressure gets better organized east of the state by the weekend, with a southeast flow aloft drawing in Monsoon moisture. Isolated storms return to the forecast by Saturday & early next week. The best chance of storms looks to be Tuesday and Wednesday, although storms will be isolated in nature.

High temps cool off to the upper 90's by Monday.
