Posted 9:10 AM 8/16/2012 : Monsoon storms working the evening shift

TUCSON - Morning clouds are throwing off the Monsoon schedule.

Scattered thunderstorms are back in the forecast today, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Ample moisture remains in place, with the best chance of storms coming after 4 PM and lasting overnight. This is thanks in part to the thick deck of clouds over southern Arizona this morning.

Storms will be capable of locally heavy rainfall, which may lead to flooding problems. That puts our exclusive Monsoon Prediction Index at 6 out of 10 for the moderate risk of severe weather late this afternoon into tonight.

An active Friday is in store for the Monsoon, with widespread storms breaking out over southern Arizona. Like today, the biggest threat will be locally heavy rainfall. Between now and Saturday morning, many portions of southern Arizona should see 0.75-1.00" rain.

Storm chances start to decrease slightly by Saturday as high pressure currently over Las Vegas moves over the state. After scattered storms Saturday, expect a daily round of isolated thunder next week.

High temps the next 7 days range from the low to mid 90's the next 48 hours to near 100 by next Tuesday.
