TUCSON - Dining out in Tucson is once again a little safer with the Kitchen Cops out in force this week. While most restaurants scored excellent ratings, a couple fell short for having issues keeping food debris off kitchen items.

Opa! Greek Cuisine and Fun received 4 critical violations. Several kitchen items had excessive amounts of food stuck to them. Plastic containers were held together with duct tape. One employee was observed handling food with her bare hands. Chicken skews in a pull out drawer cooling unit were tested at 71 degrees, way above the required 41 degrees. All violations were corrected during the inspection, earning Opa! Greek Cuisine and Fun, at 2990 N. Campbell Avenue, a "Good" rating. Owner Andreas Andoniadis says all employees have been re-instructed on wearing gloves and keeping food items in the kitchen clean.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill had 3 critical violations. A cook wiped his face and mouth with his gloved hands and then handled sliced cheese and shredded lettuce. Several pieces of dishware had encrusted food debris on them. Raw ground beef, cooked ribs, yogurt and cooked rice were all stored at temperatures over the required 41 degrees. All violations were corrected with the inspector on site, giving Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, at 4625 E. Grant Road, a "Good" rating.

Restaurants recognized for their excellent ratings include Pei Wei Asian Diner, at 845 E. University Blvd.. Mama's Kitchen, at 180 W. Continental Road, and Frank's Sports Grill & Bar, at 7930 E. Speedway Blvd..
