Tucson - Almost two years ago Kristi's Kids introduced you to Azayliah Perez, a little girl with Leukemia who desperately needed a laptop computer. She was too sick to attend school. Now seven, Azayliah is reaching out to help another child. Four-year old Hailee Siqueiros was killed in a car crash two weeks ago. Azayliah told Kristi's Kids that "all kids help each other... and we're all Kristi's Kids.
Hailee Siqueiros, and her family, were on their way to a new life in Nevada when they were torn apart. Hailee was in the back of a minivan when they were hit from behind, pulling into a rest stop. Her father, Chris, said "she took the entire... force of the impact. We were thrown into a barbed wire fence, which made things even more difficult."
Hailee was crushed and suffered massive head trauma. Her baby brother, Charlie, suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg. Everyone else endured cuts and bruises. Hailee died on Highway 93, Mile post 51, January 5th, 2012. Since the crash, Chris says, the family's been blown away by the kindness of others.
With no job and 60-dollars in his pocket, Chris and his family got shelter and support through the Ronald McDonald house.
Southwest Airlines flew everyone back to Tucson at no cost including Hailee's body. Also, a swarm of volunteers started holding car washes. Sonic, the AutoZone and Burger King offered their parking lots. In the thick of it all was Azayliah, carrying a fundraising sign for 5-hours. Azayliah's leukemia is back, but she wanted to help Hailee.
Chris was given a picture of Azayliah, at the car wash. He said "when they sent me the picture, it was pretty, pretty emotional for me. I know she was going through her own... health problems but...she's amazing."
So amazing, all 6-thousand dollars were raised for Hailee's funeral. Kristi's Kid, Azayliah, was happy to do her part.
Already on chemotherapy, Azayliah is about to undergo radiation as well.
Meantime, still reeling from the death of his only daughter, Chris is looking for work. He has experience in restaurant management. Write to us at kristiskids@kvoa.com if you want to help the Siqueiros family.
