Posted 10:10 PM 4/5/2013 : Reward increased for man found in burned car
TUCSON - The family of a man found in a burned car has increased the reward to find his killer.
Tucson firefighters found Louie Segala in a trunk after extinguishing a car fire near Irvington and Kolb Roads on March 14.
Tipsters can receive $2,500 if they help solve the case.
The victim's sister, Monica, did not want to reveal her last name. She says the 4 siblings grew up in a military family.
"There was a lot of structure in our home. He was the baby, so the structure didn't really matter to him," she said, "but we were all very close."
She talked to him the day before he died.
"It's scary because you don't know who did this," Monica said, "if that's the last place that they will stop. You don't know. I'm constantly looking at everybody thinking everybody's a suspect in my eyes."
Susie Slagle Dupnik is the Executive Director of 88-Crime. The reward money is offered through their tip system, where informants can be anonymous.
"People want to do the right thing," Dupnik said, "but they want to feel secure. They want to feel safe. They don't want to feel fear that they're reporting something, and somebody's going to know who they are."
In 2012, 88-Crime authorized $60,800 in rewards. Tipsters only claimed 27 percent.
Monica is confident detectives will find her brother's killer.
"Lies have a way of surfacing," she said. "I really can't wait for that day. I'm patient, and I have 100 percent faith, and I'm not going to give up."
