TUCSON - A vacant Tucson Unified School District is about to have new life. Pima Community College is moving into the former Roberts Elementary.

"It's a win-win. It's a win-win for Pima Community College, TUSD and the 29th Street Corridor, the group that surrounds this facility," said Bill Ward, Facilities Management with PCC.

The 51-year-old building will be the future home of Pima Community College's Adult Education Division and the Public Safety and Emergency Services. PCC approved a 5-year lease of the building from TUSD. More than a quarter million dollars in renovations are in the works, but it's what the school will add to the community that is its real worth.

"Well that is wonderful. I think we need a school like that in the neighborhood," said Alfredo Esquivel, a neighbor in the community.

"Bring life back to it. Have it set up in a way where the community can participate and be a part of it," said Ward.

The goal is to have students and staff members in the halls by this summer.

TUSD is meeting February 15th, at the Booth Elementary School Cafeteria at 450 S Montego Drive, at 6:30 to discuss proposals for Rogers, Van Horne and Wrightstown Elementary Schools.
