TUCSON - Friends and neighbors are still scratching their heads after a mother said she strangled her 10-year-old son Wednesday morning.

That mother is behind bars on attempted first degree murder and child abuse charges after she admitted to police that she strangled the boy with a cord, but those close to the family still can't believe it.

One of the young boy's playmates speaks about his friend's relationship with his mother, only on News 4 Tucson.

Vincent Robinson has many questions and he said he's having a hard time imaging his friend in that hospital bed.

The thirteen-year-old is teary eyed and scared.

"Ya, I'm scared. I'm really hoping that he makes it. He has to make it. I don't think it's his time at all," said Robinson.

He is good friends with Jean Cataline's ten-year-old boy.

"When we were bored at our house, we'd go over to his house and when he was bored at his house, he'd come over to our house and we had something to do all the time because we were together," said Robinson.

Police said Cataline admitted to strangling her boy with a cord.

"The more I think of it, the more it hurts my heart and soul," said Robinson.

Cataline was booked on attempted First degree murder and child abuse.

"No matter how hard I try just can't think it's real because it just doesn't feel real," said Robinson.

Robinson said Cataline was a loving mother.

"Automatically people are going to start judging her thinking that she's a terrible person and thinking that he was abused, and I know that he wasn't abused," said Robinson.

Long time friend Nancy Ward agreed.

She said the only thing she can think could have happened is that Cataline's struggle with her husband's recent death and finances pushed her over the edge.

"I really don't know what happened. It was too much for her I guess," said Ward.

Robinson hasn't been able to see his friend in the hospital but hopes this message can reach him.

"You just have so much to look forward to, and I don't know where you are right now, but I just need you to come back as fast as possible," said Robinson.
